The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition is an improved and expanded re-release of the original The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which added new enemies, equipment, locations, characters, and included all the DLC. In addition, the game has redesigned graphics, added new effects and increased detail of the environments.

• First of all, the changed color scheme and a bunch of new filters catch the eye. If the standard version of Skyrim mainly demonstrated cold shades, muted and even faded tones with an abundance of gray, brown and white, then in the re-release everything sparkled with bright colors. The new color scheme can hardly be called a drawback, but it may seem unusual to those who have never installed mods and played the standard version of the game
• The re-release added high-resolution shadows, plus a beautiful God Rays effect appeared. As for textures and effects, there are no significant changes in this regard in the Special Edition. In the re-release, the authors added improved textures from the free official add-on Skyrim High Resolution Pack, which could previously be installed on the Steam version of the original. Everything looks good, but some textures still lack clarity
• The same situation is with the new water shaders. Beautiful waves appeared on the surface of the rivers, and clear reflections in the water, but the shader is still not far from the inky opaque mass from the original Skyrim. The rendering distance has also changed slightly.
• Of the truly significant changes, it is worth noting the significantly increased amount of vegetation. All sorts of mushrooms and flowers have sprouted on bare paths, and the forests look truly dense thanks to the dense foliage. The snow in the mountains has also become prettier. A special shader was “put” on it, so now the snow shimmers beautifully and sparkles in the sun
• Bethesda ported Skyrim - Special Edition to a modified version of the Creation Engine, which was already used in Fallout 4. The new engine supports 64 bits, and DirectX 11 has become the main graphics API. The old version of the Creation Engine (the original Skyrim was released on) had support for DirectX 9, and the engine bit depth was 32 bits.
• The updated engine works faster and more stably. The size of the used RAM is no longer limited to four gigabytes, and this is very good news for those who like to install a variety of mods, the total size of which is tens of gigabytes
